Our Background

PUSH was formed in 2003 and initially comprised of the two unitary authorities, the county council and four of the district councils. This expanded in 2004 to the eleven councils in recognition of the value that can be gained in working collaboratively towards growing our local economy.

Since then the membership of PUSH has altered slightly and is now made of twelve South Hampshire local authorities comprising the unitary authorities of Portsmouth and Southampton and Isle of Wight; Hampshire County Council and district authorities of Eastleigh, East Hampshire, Fareham, Gosport, Havant, Test Valley, New Forest and Winchester. PUSH continues to work collaboratively with partner agencies in the sub region as well as key Government Departments to ensure joined up strategies, pooling of resources and delivery of transformational programmes that focus on better outcomes for local people. More recently, the formation of Local Enterprise Partnerships and in particular,the establishment of the Solent Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) has further enhanced PUSH's engagement with private sector businesses in a concerted effort to identify and align business priorities. PUSH continues to proactively engage with business leaders, universities and the voluntary sector through the Solent LEP in support of activities that facilitate sustainable economic growth and create additional homes and jobs for our residents.

The Solent LEP Board is made up of 15 fully elected Strategic Board Directors comprising of eight Business Directors (currently six due to two vacancies), one Executive Director, one Further/Higher Education Director and five Local Authority Directors, one of which is the PUSH Chairman, Councillor Seán Woodward.
