What we do

The Partnership for Urban South Hampshire (PUSH) exists to improve the economic performance of South Hampshire and the regeneration of the cities of Portsmouth and Southampton and the other major urban areas. To achieve this, work is managed through the following theme groups:

Economic Development

South Hampshire is an area of economic challenges and opportunities.  PUSH’s aim is to raise the economic performance of the sub-region to match the rest of the South East, with more jobs, better business productivity and growth in knowledge-based and higher value sectors of the economy.

Housing

We need a sufficient supply of new homes to ensure that housing availability and affordability do not constrain the economic growth we need to match the rest of South East England.

Planning

PUSH wants both existing and new communities in South Hampshire to be sustainable and attractive places.  Our collaborative work on planning has a major role to play in shaping places and providing consistency of approach across South Hampshire.

Sustainability

South Hampshire has a wealth of environmental, historical and cultural assets.  One of PUSH’s key priorities is to ensure that its strategy for economic growth protects and enhances these assets, is environmentally sustainable and seizes opportunities for innovation.

Transport

The delivery of PUSH’s growth strategy depends crucially upon the achievement of objectives around an improved transport system and accessibility underpinned by the approach of ‘reduce, manage and invest’.

Infrastructure

For growth to be sustainable we need to ensure the timely provision of necessary infrastructure, both to address existing deficits and additional demands resulting from growth.

Culture

PUSH aims to develop sustainable communities within the sub-region. The Partnership recognises that planning for cultural and community facilities, things which add to the quality of life and help create local identity, is as important as planning for new houses or businesses. Maintaining and building on our cultural and creative strengths will help us retain our competitive advantage and build our success.
