PUSH Growth Fund Changes for 2010/11
The Partnership for Urban South Hampshire is dismayed at the Government's response to its recent consultation on cuts in the Growth Fund. The 44% cut in PUSH’s capital, grant announced this week, will mean that PUSH will not be able to support some key projects in 2010-11 and puts at risk other investment in projects that rely on PUSH funding. ...

Strategic Transport Studies

What the project is:

Three strategic studies conducted by private sector consultants (Mott Gifford, Peter Brett Associates and MVA) to inform the long-term transport strategy for the sub-region. The aim of the studies is to examine strategic access to the sub-region, to Southampton (from east and west) and to Portsmouth and South East Hampshire.  The studies will amongst other things review the forty critical infrastructure requirements and other measures identified within the ‘Solent Transport Strategy’ to inform submissions to the Regional Assembly for their refresh of the Regional Funding Allocations.

Background;

Within the South Hampshire area it is expected that significant transport infrastructure will be needed to cater for anticipated levels of growth in the demand for travel coupled with proposed economic growth and new housing build identified in the South East Plan. Regional and national government are supportive of the case for enhanced interventions, but the local authorities need to build firmer evidence bases for the schemes. The Department for Transport have suggested that in support of the Solent Transport Strategy and PUSH growth proposals, there is a need to develop the existing phased and costed transport programme into a prioritised programme of interventions that is affordable (in a range of funding scenarios), supported by proposals for a robust delivery structure and underpinned throughout by the consideration of a range of options and a solid evidence base.

With this in mind the overall aim of the studies under the banner of Strategic Transport Studies is to identify and investigate congestion, safety, operational and environmental problems of transport within the area and to propose measures aimed at resolving these problems and improving access to and between urban centres, international gateways and other areas of economic activity.
