PUSH Growth Fund Changes for 2010/11
The Partnership for Urban South Hampshire is dismayed at the Government's response to its recent consultation on cuts in the Growth Fund. The 44% cut in PUSH’s capital, grant announced this week, will mean that PUSH will not be able to support some key projects in 2010-11 and puts at risk other investment in projects that rely on PUSH funding. ...

Green Infrastructure Strategy

What the project is:

A strategy based upon the rigorous assessment of potential impacts on green infrastructure assets in the sub-region and associated biodiversity, ensuring that additional pressures from growth are minimised, mitigation packages are identified and that opportunities to enhance green assets are maximised.

Background:

Green infrastructure was identified as a component of critical infrastructure in a PUSH background document in 2005.  Green infrastructure describes the physical spaces that intersperse and connect our cities, towns and villages. It provides an approach to viewing the natural environment which acknowledges the multiple benefits and vital functions that it provides for the economy, for local people, and for wildlife alike. A strategy to manage this Green Infrastructure is needed to help deliver PUSH’s environmental policy objectives and its vision to improve South Hampshire’s quality of life.  Green infrastructure has the potential to contribute positively towards the achievement of economic, social and environmental well-being. Eight headline themes were identified via consultation as the key quality of life issues felt to matter most in the area:

The assessment of PUSH’s proposal for New Growth Point status confirmed the importance of green infrastructure issues, and made the preparation of a Green Infrastructure Strategy a condition of partnership with Government.

The strategy is being prepared on behalf of PUSH by TEP Consultants of Warrington.
