Grow Project

The project

This was a partnership between the PUSH authorities, the Environment Centre (tEC), Hampshire County Council, Cracow University of Technology, and the Instituto Andaluz de Technologia with the objective to create a blueprint for planning and purchasing in relation to sustainable built development. The target groups of the project were local authorities and the business community with the ambition of setting up an “international sustainable network” resulting in the upgrade of regional spatial and environmental policy in the three regions in the UK, Poland and Spain. The project had several key deliverables:

Background

This project was set within the wider context of improving the effectiveness of policies and instruments for regional development and cohesion and the vision for not “growth at all cost” but the achievement of “Smart Growth”. It is recognized that Relatively High Growth regions have to deal with some of the negative consequences of success such as transport congestion, pressure on land and resources, skills shortages and often an uneven rate of development. The objective of this project, to establish a joint programme between these growth regions in Europe, was born out of a recognition of these challenges. The programme was used as an opportunity to share best practice and develop innovation with regions specifically focusing on planning and purchasing in relation to sustainable built development.
