Promoting economic success

Sustained and increased economic growth is the main driver for the sub-regional strategy, in particular to close the gap in economic performance with the South East region.

The sub-region has a sound economy. However, currently and historically, it has lagged behind the South East and under performed in relation to its potential.

Our strategy is therefore to:

• Support the sub-regional economy during the current economic crisis and over the medium to long term

• To strengthen and enhance the South Hampshire economy

• Improve our skills base and tackle barriers to employment and enterprise

• Promote business sectors with the potential to perform well and address under performance in others including through increased inward investment.

We have commissioned an independent consultants to review the evidence in light of the current recession and will result in the revision of our strategy and vision.
