Economic Development Strategy

The adopted PUSH Economic Development Strategy is a key document for the partnership. It is a significant part of the PUSH Business Plan and sets out both the context for economic growth and specifies the priority actions. This is to lay the foundations of the transformational change necessary over the period to 2026, to be implemented by PUSH and its partners. It is a dynamic document that will continue to evolve and is currently being reviewed in response to the achievement of important milestones and the impacts of the recession.

In the autumn of 2009, DTZ and Oxford Economics (OE) were commissioned to update and refresh the PUSH economic development evidence base and strategy, including an assessment of the impact of the recession on the sub-region.

At the July Joint Committee the Draft Economic Development Strategy; together with two accompanying papers on the Economic Evidence base and the Preferred Growth scenario; were presented as the basis of consultation. Members approved the draft strategy for consultation which commenced on 21 July 2010, and concluded on 21 September 2010. A report summarising the responses to the consultation can be accessed below:

In addition the Joint Committee approved the final Headline Sustainability Assessment as a basis for bringing a consideration of sustainability issues into the preparation of the Economic Development Strategy.
