The Solent Mitigation Partnership is a collaborative initiative involving 15 local authorities across South Hampshire, aiming to unlock housing development by offering nutrient mitigation to developers. In recent years, nutrient neutrality guidelines have impeded housing developments due to the requirement for projects to be nutrient neutral.
Through the central government’s Local Nutrient Mitigation Fund, funds have been used to create schemes across South Hampshire to generate nitrogen and phosphorus credits. These credits are available for developers to purchase – enabling them to meet nutrient neutrality regulations.
